Biography:

The George Tisdale Band, is the newest alternative rock band to hit the industry scene. While there are many other “retro” rock acts that have preceded them who now serve as an inspiration. GTB is the newest force to be reckoned with and remains determined not to be pigeonholed to a single style or genre. Their music crosses all barriers by fusing the rich, soulful and often rocking sounds of soul, funk, rock, psychedelic, folk, and ballads receptive to audiences of every class, creed and color.

George received his start at age 8 while playing the drums, keys and later the guitar at his parent’s church in Dallas, TX. Upon completion of a tour of Duty in the U.S. Airforce, George took his gifts and toured Europe; it was there his dream of becoming an artist began to manifest. George returned from Europe and attended North Carolina Central University where he studied jazz under the tutelage of the legendary Dr. Ira Wiggins. At NCCU George developed his sound and found a style distinctive enough to separate him from the masses. As he reflects on his journey, George says, “All my life I knew I was a performer with something powerful to share, I knew I was an artist created with purpose and now its time the world knows who George Tisdale is”.

Some of George’s personal influences hail from his very own family tree to include Hidden Beach and Sony Recording Artist, Keite Young and his Uncle, the well renowned smooth jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Bilal, Kevin Michael, Marvin Gaye, Sly and the family Stone, and John Peter West to name a few. Despite the vast array of influences, George places an all-inclusive spin on rock & soul that has empowered him with the ability to establish himself as the epitome of retro while raising the standard in becoming one of the world\’s greatest style icon.

George has worked with a range of noteworthy artists from Branford Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Keite Young, Dalon Collins, Nnenna Freelon, Lenora Zenzalai Helm, Eriv Revis, Joey Calderazzo, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Chris Coleman, Kevin Mahogany, Antonio Hart, and Grady Tate just to name a few. George recently teamed up with “Da Katalyst” production team, led by Aaron “Treeptop” Pines, a prolific producer from Texas, Simon Illa of Philadelphia, PA, the immaculate Purple St. James, formerly known as Yahzarah, the legendary production team Organized Noize, Chris Warrior and along with a host of other great producers, singer/songwriters, and musicians to complete his current project entitled “Born Free”.

GTB’s drive reminds us of music’s essential quality of boundless invention by all available means. As an independent band with a refreshing sound, they continue to perfect their craft and keep labels and audiences buzzing across the country.

The music community waited patiently for 5 years for the release of Mike Philips latest project. He arrived in Washington, DC yesterday with his saxophone in one hand and his highly anticipated CD in the other. He began the promotional event with an intimate Q&A session and live performance of “Gonna’ Miss You” & “Party With Mike Phillips” from his latest CD “M.P.3” The acoustic show closed with a meet & greet and a CD signing of his new CD “M.P.3” and “Hidden Beach Recordings Presents: Unwrapped Vol. 7” provided by Kemp Mill Music.

During the show, Mike promised to remain grounded and continue to make a strong connection with his fan base. This was evident as he delivered a phenomenal performance that left the crowd on their feet with ovation.

DC Singer, Songwriter Carolyn Malachi to Release New EP on July 30 at U Street Music Hall
Lions, Fires, & Squares features new songs about relationships, love, and the strength of being a powerful woman

(Washington, DC) Singer, songwriter, poet Carolyn Malachi is set to release her new EP, Lions, Fires, & Squares, on July 30, 2010. This event will take place at U Street Music Hall, located at 1115 A U St. NW at 7 PM, and will be hosted by Asheru. The EP includes six new tracks: an intro, three new singles, and two remixes.

With her unique genre-bending blend of jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, and spoken word, Carolyn Malachi attracts new fans every day. This EP, Lions, Fires, and Squares, features new songs about relationships, love, and strength. The music from Lions, Fires, and Squares is influenced by her recent tour in South Africa with artist and activist Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP).

Malachi founded the Smart Chicks Network to bring visibility and leadership opportunities for women in the arts. Through the network she and other Smart Chicks inspire other women and young girls “to be creative, to demand and attain more from life, to understand the true meaning of love and compassion for self and community”. Calling Lions, Fires & Squares a “colorful call-to-awareness for women to recognize strength in beauty and beauty in strength”, Malachi says “End to end, my music is the soundtrack to a Smart Chick’s busy day:”

The Washington Post describes Malachi’s infectious musical gumbo as “Hard to Put in Words,” and the Washington Post Magazine hinted at her possible Grammy nomination in its “Our Town” feature. Malachi has performed at the Blues Room in Johannesburg, South Africa, and at Blues Alley and Love Nightclub in Washington, DC. She will appear at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art In 2010, Malachi was selected as an Artist in Bloom Resident Fellow at BloomBars, a Washington-based arts organization working to support and nurture artists across the globe. In a recent address to supporters of BloomBars, Malachi affirmed, “The music on Lions, Fires & Squares is imaginative and potent. I’m excited for the world to fall in love with it”. She continued, “I’ve said that I want to win a Grammy. I do. This is the motivation for that. For me, greater exposure to resources of the world means access to those resources for the aspiring artists in my community.”

Reinforcing her message of empowering women and affecting positive change in her community, Malachi invited the Taratibu Youth Association (TYA) and international Hip-Hop star, Asheru to participate in the event. Taratibu, a Pan-Afrikan drill, is movement based on the South African “gum boot” dance, combining traditional African dance with contemporary military movements, traditional Negro spirituals, contemporary gospel and traditional African songs in Kiswahili and Zulu. TYA, the opening act at the event, uses traditional and contemporary songs, dance and movement to teach principles of community building, self-determination, and spirituality. Asheru is the founder of Guerilla Arts, Inc., a community-based organization specializing in innovative education, cultural arts programming, and professional development. Since 2005, Asheru’s Hip-Hop Education Literacy Program (HELP) has partnered with dozens of recording artists, including Common, Jay-Z, Kanye West, KRS-One, Nas and Rakim. In 2008, H.E.L.P. received a letter of endorsement from President (then, Senator) Barack Obama.

Malachi is the great-granddaughter of legendary jazz pianist, John Malachi, and she holds a Degree in Business Administration from Shepherd University.

The Indie Life: A motion Picture Album is a short film made up of a collection of music videos from artist SmCity’s album “The Indie Life”, which was released July 4th 2010. The story is told through a blend of music videos and movie scenes featuring SmCity (featured in URB Magazine’s Next 100,AllHipHop.com Reasonable Doubt Remix Project) The film features never before seen cityscape views of Washington DC as well as several historic locations, all shot on the latest HD equipment. Metropolitan Muse Concert Series Hosts Official After Party for the ALCU-NCA Equal Footing Campaign
Special Edition for the Month of July! Hosted by WKYS 93.9 FM’s EZ Street!

Washington, DC (Monday, July 12, 2010)- Desiree Samira Entertainment is proud to present the Official After Party for the ALCU-NCA Equal Footing Campaign. This event will be held at Policy DC on Thursday, July 15th. It will be hosted by WKYS 93.9 FM’s EZ Street and will have the sounds provided by DJ India. The ACLU Equal Footing campaign will also be doing an earlier event on the West Lawn of the Capitol Bldg, E. Capitol and 1st St., NE D.C from 6-9pm to raise awareness about Washington, D.C., the only capitol city of the democratized world whose citizens are denied a vote in the national legislature. There will be hundreds of people who will join the cause and rally and there will be live performances by some of well-known voices of the DMV (DC/MD/VA). Former child star Gary Coleman, who rose to fame as the wisecracking youngster Arnold Jackson on the TV sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes”, dies at the age of 42. He became sick on Wednesday evening and died today of a brain hemorrhage at a Provo, Utah hospital.

“Whatcha talkin bout Willis,” tagline taken from Different Strokes by Garry Coleman AKA Arnold.

Gary Coleman will remain a part of TV history and a household name. Rest in Peace Gary.

I had the privilege of attending the Washington, DC Sex & the City 2 red carpet movie premiere hosted by Moet & Chandon at the AFI Silver in Downtown Silver Spring last night. The event kicked off with a star studded cocktail hour filled with fashionista’s, taste makers and the industries power players. The lobby was filled with excitement and anticipation of the next installment of fashion, love, friendship and freedom.

I don’t want to spoil all the surprises but I can’t leave you without a teaser…

The internet was flooded with amateurs and pros rendition of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” dance routine. How would you feel if I told you Liza Minnelli debuts her “Single Ladies” inspired dance routine in the movie? Yes, LIZA MINNELLI!!! I guarantee that Liza’s performance will have you falling out of your seat with amusement.

*There are a few more memorable moments throughout the film. Sex & the City fans will be overall pleased with the movie and definitely look forward to Sex & the City 3.
